About
We are UC Berkeley’s one and only competitive International Ballroom Dance Team and the largest team on the West Coast. We offer Cal Students high quality dance instruction through our professional coaches and attend competitions throughout the state and nation. Our team members have both placed and won in national competitions.
Ballroom dancing is a partner-style dance which has risen in popularity across the world, especially in European countries. In International Ballroom there are 2 main styles of dancing called Standard and Latin, both with 5 types of dances.
Standard dances are the most iconic style of ballroom dancing, which include the Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep.
Latin dances, as their name suggests, take most of their inspiration from dances found in Latin countries. These include Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive
Two left feet? No partner? No worries! The majority of our team members have never danced before joining. We will teach you everything you need to know to excel on the dance floor! Come to one of our welcome week events (held the second week of the semester, both fall and spring– check our website for more up to date information) to check out what we do and learn some cool new moves.
