Pre-Team Swim Training

Pre Team Swim Training further develops competitive swimming strokes in a structured team workout atmosphere. The Pre Team Swim Training program is a perfect opportunity for participants (Levels 4 & up) to maintain their progress and bridge the gap to the club team experience.

Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) unassisted. This program is offered at three levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Low Advanced. Please review Pre Team prerequisites and level descriptions to determine the best fit.

Who
Learn-to-Swim Levels 4 & up

Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool freestyle and have the basic elements of backstroke, breaststroke kick, and body dolphin.

Participants are required to obtain their own swim snorkel and fins. These are great tools for developing body awareness and refining the timing and muscle memory of the four strokes.

A prerequisite for the Pre-Team Swim Training program is your child must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) unassisted.
Levels
Novice: The primary focus of the Novice team is the development and refinement of freestyle and backstroke. Participants will also be introduced to swim-team-style drills. These drills will focus on developing proper kicking and breathing techniques as well as increasing stamina. Participants will also gain a basic intro to breaststroke and butterfly.

Intermediate: On the Intermediate team, participants will continue to refine their freestyle and backstroke skills. There will be a greater focus on breaststroke and butterfly. Through basic swim sets, participants will learn how to use the pace clock, how to do flip turns and dives, and to develop a competitive groundwork.

Low Advanced (ages 13+): The Low Advanced team is run in a classic swim-team format, focusing on drills to improve and refine all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly), proper kicking and breathing techniques, stamina, and racing skills (dives, underwaters, flip-turns).

About the Head Coach

Aquatics Director, Spencer Hawkins.

Before his current position, Spencer has 15 years of swim team coaching experience, was a Cal Men’s swimming team member, 2-time finalist at US nationals, former national age group record holder, and a member of the 1995 High School national championship swim team.
