Six time national club champions, Men’s Volleyball competes in the Northern California Collegiate Volleyball League yearly for the Northern California Regional and National Championship titles.

 

About

Cal Men’s volleyball is a recognized competitor in Division I college club volleyball. Cal Men’s Volleyball hosts tryouts in the early weeks of September. In Spring, Cal competes in the Northern California College Volleyball League against local rivals including Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis, and Stanford. The season concludes with the NCVF National Championships in early April, where Cal regularly finishes within the top 10 teams across the nation in Division I.

What types of player’s try out for Cal Men’s Volleyball?

Cal Club Volleyball competes in a competitive league. There are no prerequisites, however, players typically have at least 2+ years of high school or club experience. Tryout performance and skill determines a player’s ability to make the team, not experience. All years and colleges within UC Berkeley including international players, graduate, and doctorate students are welcome to try out.

What league does Cal Men’s Volleyball compete in?

During our primary season in the spring, the team competes in the Northern California Collegiate Volleyball League (NCCVL). In April, the team competes at the National Championships hosted by the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF).

How big of a commitment is Cal Men’s Volleyball?

Cal Men’s Volleyball requires a player to attend practices and tournaments on a regular basis to be considered for a starting position. A player’s workload may vary, however, the team includes students spanning all majors, colleges, and unit loads from 12-20 units per semester. Cal Men’s Volleyball is flexible for players and understand outstanding circumstances in which a player may not be able to attend some practices.

How much travel is implied during the season?

All regional matches and tournaments take place within the greater Northern California area, with the farthest trips being matches in San Luis Obispo and Fresno. The 3-day NCVF National Championships occur during the month of April and may be hosted anywhere in the continental United States.

How many teams does Cal Men’s Volleyball support?

Cal Men’s Volleyball fields one team every year.

 

Tryouts

Tryouts will take place two to three weeks into the Fall semester. Several club-sponsored open gyms will also be held in the weeks prior. Please refer to our social media pages for the most up-to-date information.

Dues

Players pay $500 per semester for club fees. Scholarships may be available based on player financial needs.

Team Schedule

  • Cal Men’s Volleyball practices twice a week regularly.
  • Schedules vary year to year but often follow a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday framework
  • Practice times are in the evening for classes to be completed earlier in the day.
  • Tournaments and matches in the Spring semesters follow a weekend schedule and do not conflict with coursework.
  • Specific dates will be posted on social media.
