This style of yoga is a great option for individuals with physical disabilities, aging populations, and individuals with difficulty balancing. It is also great for beginners or anyone who wants to focus on a gentle practice at a comfortable pace. Just like other yoga practices, Seated Yoga increases flexibility, strength, and body awareness. Please join us for this 30-minute yoga flow followed by a 15 minute Q&A.

Goalball Decal Course

UC Berkeley Recreation and Wellbeing is in need of students! We are currently searching for students to enroll within the Inclusive Recreation Goalball DeCal course this upcoming Fall 2023 Semester! Students enrolled are eligible to receive 1 unit attending this class.

What is Goalball?

GoalBall is a fun yet challenging paralympic sport that takes place in a gym court with all players wearing eye shades. The game is played by using a bowling motion to throw a ball containing a bell into the opponent’s net while the opposing players try to block the ball with their bodies. This adaptive sport can be played by individuals of various skill levels and abilities. Similar to semesters in the past, we want to use education to reactivate inclusive recreation opportunities within the UC Berkeley community.

How can you join?

You can enroll in the course using your CalCentral and by searching for the course using the following information: PBHLTH 198 GRP 006, Class #16956, Mon. 2:00-4:00pm

The course will be held in the RSF Blue Gym Courts once a week, on Monday’s from 2:00p – 3:59p. Volunteer opportunities with this program are also available and highly encouraged. For those interested in seeking more information regarding the course and/or volunteering please contact inclusiverec@berkeley.edu.

Deadline to enroll: February 7th 2024

We look forward to some fun in the RSF as we dive back and forth in each class session, ultimately unpacking all parts of the game!

Adaptive Climbing

Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, meet a new friend, or get a workout in before a class, our climbing wall has been designed to lower the barriers to entry into this up-and-coming sport. We offer equipment rentals, beginner climber classes, and events free of charge. Adaptive climbing events and one on one consultation are also available.  Please see the adaptive sports schedule for upcoming events. Wheelchair Basketball

Recreation & Wellbeing now offers wheelchair basketball. Wheelchair basketball is a contact sport that bears many similarities to basketball, such as the number of players on each team, the scoring system, the size of the court, the dimensions of the equipment, and the requirement of dribbling. In these program sessions, everyone is welcome to play, regardless of mobility or experience level. Wheelchair basketball is perfect for those who have limited ability to run, jump, and/or pivot.

Ten Per4Max wheelchairs in a variety of sizes will be available to rent anytime during business hours. Please visit the Guest Services located at the locker rooms if you wish to rent a chair or email us at inclusive.rec@berkeley.edu.

All ten chairs will also be out and available during the following open gym times.

No fee required for members.

Non-Member Aide Facility Access

Recreation & Wellbeing members with disabilities are welcome to bring a non-member aide to assist with gym equipment and facilities access. When checking in, you must inform the Front Desk staff that a non-member aide accompanies you so they can be given access. Non-member aides are not permitted to use gym equipment or facilities except as required to assist the member. If a non-member aide does want to use the gym equipment, they can speak to the front desk about membership.

If non-member aides are found using equipment, they will be asked to leave.
