Skateboarding Camp
Since 2000, youth from across the Bay Area have experienced this one-of-a-kind camp. Skateboarding campers get the opportunity to learn in a one-of-a-kind environment, filled with a variety of ramps and street obstacles from 3-to-13 feet tall. This nationally recognized program, led by top professionals under the guidance and leadership of Sean O’Loughlin, Skateboarding Coordinator.
In this one-week camp, beginner skaters will learn skateboard mechanics and basic riding skills such as balance, carving, riding transitions, and dropping-in. Advanced skaters learn grinds, ollies, and airs, and have the chance to learn to drop in on bigger ramps, and learn flip tricks. Skaters will be assessed on the first day of the session and the lessons will be adapted to their ability. All participants are educated in skateboard safety, which includes ways to fall that minimize injury. Girls are encouraged to attend.
NOTE ABOUT EQUIPMENT FOR THIS CAMP – Participants must bring their own skateboard, helmet, and knee & elbow pads. Equipment must fit properly and be of good quality for the camper to skate in our programs. Due to our rigorous safety standards and instructional content, skaters will not be allowed to skate with the low-cost boards and pads typically found at toy stores or other large general merchandise retailers. Many skaters come with skateboards that are unsafe and prevent them from learning how to turn. Please contact us if you have questions about your equipment at skate@berkeley.edu.
Skateboarding Leadership Team
The Skateboarding Leadership Team is for advanced and independent skateboarders who have completed at least two to four sessions in our programs, and who have the maturity and self-discipline to take on a leadership role at camp. Advanced skaters learn grinds, ollies, and airs, and have the chance to learn to drop in on bigger ramps, and learn flip tricks. All participants are educated in skateboard safety, which includes ways to fall that minimize injury.
The Leadership Program is invite-only and takes place during the same time and dates as the rest of camp. Please email skate@berkeley.edu for more information.
Age & Eligibility
- Skateboarding Camp: Campers must be ages 8-16 (by the start of the individual one-week camp session) in order to register for this camp. Participants must bring their own skateboard, helmet, and knee & elbow pads.
- Skateboarding Leadership Team: Campers must be ages 12-17 (by the start of the individual one-week camp session) in order to register for this camp.

L8 Sk8 & Skateboarding Private Lessons
L8 SK8 is Skate Camp’s drop-in open skate program, and serves as an extended care option for Skateboard Camp participants. Participants get extra skateboard practice time during extended care hours with an instructor present. Private skateboard lessons are also available for skaters who want to tune their skills, and learn in a one-on-one environment with our highly qualified teaching staff. Lessons are for 50 minutes. Pre-enrollment is required for all lessons.
