Message sent from Brigitte Lossing, Director of Recreation & Wellbeing, to participants on May 29, 2020
Dear Recreation & Wellbeing members, participants, parents, and families,
As the impact of the coronavirus evolves, I am reaching out to update you on Recreation & Wellbeing facilities and activities. Alameda County, along with six other Bay Area counties, recently announced the extension of the current shelter-in-place order (with limited easing of restrictions) until further notice.
In support of this, in-person access to Recreation & Wellbeing facilities, programs, and services will be suspended until further notice. We will review the new order to determine whether there will be any additional changes to our current operations and provide updates as needed.
Recreation & Wellbeing remains committed to staying connected with our members and the campus community. We continue to create original content and curate a variety of online programming designed to keep us moving forward together from home. Tune in and check out these new offerings:
- Cal Intramural (IM) Sports Trivia Night – Join us on Twitch every Wednesday at 7 p.m. for IM Sports Trivia Night. Each week’s winner will receive an IM Sports Under Armour shirt.
- Recreation & Wellbeing Virtual 5K Run & Walk Club – Get moving, have fun, and connect with friends when you join our campus community for upcoming virtual 5K events, every Saturday. Complete your 5K at any time during each designated event day.
- Fitness Consultations – Sign up for a FREE 45-minute online session with a personal trainer.
- Fitness & Wellness Classes – Live sessions, on-demand classes, and fitness tips are available online for your enjoyment.
Looking ahead to when we can welcome you back to our Recreation & Wellbeing facilities in person, please note that program services and operations may look different. Our team is evaluating new protocols that support CDC recommendations and meet City of Berkeley and campus operating requirements.
Some things that will likely change to help support physical distancing and reduce the spread of germs include: reduced capacities in each facility, enhanced check-in systems, increased cleaning processes, additional hand sanitizer stations, and asking attendees to bring their own water bottle. We will adapt our facilities and processes to uphold health guidelines for the entire community.
We know that you have many fitness options to choose from and we appreciate your ongoing dedication to Berkeley Recreation & Wellbeing. In the time ahead, we will focus efforts on continuing to provide wellness benefits through our website and social media channels. For additional information and the latest campus developments, please visit Berkeley News.
Please be safe, and know that we look forward to welcoming you in person in the future. Thank you, again, for your continued support as we navigate this challenge together.
Wellness Happens Here …. And Wherever You Are!
Sincerely,
Brigitte Lossing
